F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen joined BLDD Architects for the 2007 Canstruction competition to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository. This unique event combines the competitive spirit of a design/build competition with a goal to help feed hungry people. Participating teams, lead by architects and engineers, display their talents by creating sculptures made entirely out of canned foods. After the competition and exhibition all of the food used in the structures is donated to local food banks for distribution to pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, elderly and day care centers. Over 75 Canstruction events are held around the country each year to raise more than 2,000,000 lbs. of food for local relief agencies. All of the canned good used in this year’s Canstruction exhibits represent a donation of approximately $60,000 to the Food Depository.
