F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen (FHPSNN) was named a finalist for a 2006 Merit Award in the “Rehab Construction” category for the complete renovation of the Robert Lindblom Technical High School. Each year, the Chicago Building Congress (CBC) presents four Merit Awards honoring outstanding projects within the Chicago metropolitan area from the previous two years. The $16.2 million renovation of the four-story, 333,000 square foot facility was the largest renovation project ever undertaken for a Chicago public school. The Lindblom renovation project was a key component of an overall revitalization strategy for part of the Englewood community on Chicago’s southwest side. Renovations include thirty-nine general purpose classrooms, a science classroom, two science labs, computer lab, learning lab, fitness room, girls locker room, greenhouse, 1,700 seat, four level auditorium, library, two gymnasiums, swimming pool, fourteen toilet rooms, administrative offices, book store, and health service offices.
FHPSNN’s work on the project was impacted at its start when mechanical and electrical infrastructure upgrades to be fulfilled by another contractor fell behind schedule. FHPSNN accelerated its construction schedule to absorb this impact and completed the project, ahead of schedule in September 2005.
